Poker is sometimes played with a special fund, called kitty, which is shared by all players. Kitty is usually built up by cutting low-denomination chips from pots with more than one raise. Once a player has built up a substantial amount of kitty, they can pay for new decks of cards. Alternatively, they can leave the game and take their share of kitty with them.
Most games of poker have betting intervals. Each interval begins with a bet by a player, and ends with a showdown. During the showdown, the highest ranked poker hand wins the pot. Alternatively, if there is a tie, the ties are broken by the highest unmatched card.
After the deal is finished, the player who made the first bet is the first to check. During the next betting interval, the player who checked can call the bet or raise the bet. Those who raise the bet are said to be “raise.” Finally, the bettor who was the last to bet is the last to check.
During the next interval, a player can also draw. During this time, a player can redraw a card to change the hand. Sometimes, the player who makes the first draw is the player who has the minimum hand, which is typically a pair of jacks.
